Description
Offered for your consideration is this gorgeous Pair of Early Irish Bulls Eye Decanters. What an amazing set! These have been in my collection for over 25 years. Add a little moisture to them and the cloudiness goes away, however for the images I made sure they were entirely dry inside to show the extent of the cloudiness for the collector who will not be using them on a daily basis. I am told the cloudiness can be removed, however I will leave that to the new owner if they deem it necessary. These are very early , either late 18th century or early 19th century and are perhaps made with some of the finest craftsmanship of that era. Each was blown free form with no seams or mold marks. The decanters are decorated with deep scalloped arches at their bases leading to 6 large raised and framed bulls eyes, one for each panel. They have substantial rimmed lips and are finished off with fully faceted original stoppers.
There are no chips, nips, cracks, or repairs. One stopper is a little shorter and thinner than the other which makes it sit just a tad bit lower in the stem, not affecting its functionality and the other
stopper having a tiny chip at its bottom and an area that had been ground clear by the maker for apparently a perfect fit
. Each
has a finely ground base with a ground and polished recessed pontil. The decanters measures approx. 12" tall and 4 5/8" in diameter. These are heavy each weighing in at over 3 1/2 pounds with nice broad bases. An enjoyment to use and I have never seen a finer set!
