This is an original advertisement for Hart Schaffner & Marx for men's fashion from 1917 as printed in the Saturday Evening Post.  This is a large format 2 page ad measuring 14 x 22 inches and would look great framed as part of a gift or in your collection.  This was illustrated by Leon Gordon who specialized in portraits and people.
Leon Gordon (1889-1943) was born in 1889 in Borisov, Russia. He is best known as a portrait painter.  Gordon lived for periods of time in Paris and New York City. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Students League in NYC, the Academie Julian in Paris and the Kunst Academy in Vienna.  He exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists in 1917, and was a member of the Salmagundi Club in NYC and the Society of Illustrators.  He made advertisements and illustrations for all the major magazines of the day.
In 1930,
Good Housekeeping
magazine commissioned Gordon to paint twelve portraits of "the twelve greatest American women" (including Eleanor Roosevelt, Grace Abbott and Florence Sabin) which were published once a month in the magazine through 1931.  Gordon's portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt is included in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
