    Description

Eleven Magic Lantern slides showing New York City circa 1899-1918
The photo of Dewey Arch is dated 1899, and the photo of the Fourth Liberty Loan banner would be from 1918. We would estimate the other slides to date from the same era.
Condition is used as shown. Two slides have scotch tape on the edges.
The magic lantern was an early type of image projector that used pictures—paintings, prints, or photographs—on transparent plates (usually made of glass).
It was commonly used for entertainment purposes but was increasingly used for education during the 19th century.
The magic lantern was in wide use from the 18th century until the mid-20th century when it was superseded by slide projectors.
