1915 EASTLAND boat SINKING ship CHICAGO 844 deaths LOT OF 22 GLASS SLIDES "rare"
This is a lot of 22 glass slides from the disaster in Chicago in 1915 of The Eastland ship boat. If you search online there are only a few photos of this series and William Blomgren & Company were the photographers of this tragic event.
The Smithsonian Magazine has an in depth 2014 article about this so if you need to read further on it that would be a great place to go.
In summation there was to be a Western Electric excursion and the ship didn't leave and took on water in the Chicago River with a couple thousand people on board. This boat had a history of death too which adds to the story of this day but just completely sad.
They are in very good condition none broken. Looking online and not seeing any photos of what I have makes me think there could have been 1 master set made of which I have the good part of them all. I have never seen anything from this series before either and would have remembered as this subject matter is seldom seen in glass lantern slides. In addition to that being Western Electric related I would recall for sure. Anyways the subject matter speaks for itself and believe the museums or more hardcore collectors will know how rare these are to want them to show others. ?'s please ask.
